Tangier was an international area for three decades, between 1923 and 1956, and it was during this period that Tangier flourished as an independent, neutral and international city, facing the rest of Morocco. A strategic point between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times, Tangier has always been attractive because of its geographical location. It is located in the northwest of the country, in the Strait of Gibraltar and 14 km from the Spanish coast. Gateway to Africa, it is a city on the shores of 2 seas: the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean.
